Helpful Moving Tips

Bicycles and toys – Wipe clean of any dirt and apply a light coating of oil for added rust protection. Use cloth or paper pads to wrap around and protect the items and to prevent staining other items.

Books and Papers – Always pack heavier items such as paper files and books in smaller cartons for easier moving.

Breakables – For the best protection, use a dish-pack or glassware-pack box (double walled). The best packing method is to stack dishes on their side and place glasses upright. Click here for additional packing tips.

Clothing – Wardrobe boxes are ideal for storing clothes. Shoes and folded items can be stored in the bottom to save space. Use hangers on the bar provided

Furniture – Disassemble furniture pieces if possible to optimize use of space. Always place mattresses and box springs in protective bags or cartons

Large Appliances – Always clean appliances thoroughly before storing. For refrigerators, allow them to air out at least 24 hours before storing to prevent mildew. Do not use washers at least 24 hours before storing. Washer hoses and dryer vent hoses need to be carefully wrapped in cloth or towels. Store them inside the drum to prevent loss. Be sure to secure all moving parts with tape.
